
Charles C. Stephenson currently is co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Premier Natural Resources, an independent oil and gas company and, and co-founder and director of Growth Capital Partners, a venture capital company. He serves on the Board of Directors of AAON, Inc. which is listed on the NASDAQ exchange. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and serves on the board of the National Petroleum Council.
Mr. Stephenson graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. He served as an officer in the U. S. Army and after discharge began his career with Amerada Petroleum Corporation in 1960 serving in various engineering and management positions at Amerada before ultimately becoming Manager of the Engineering Department. Between 1973 and 1982 he was an owner and President of privately held Andover Oil Company. In 1983 he founded Vintage Petroleum, Inc. as an independent energy company headquartered in Tulsa. It became a public company in 1990 with its stock listed on the New York Stock Exchange. He served as Chairman of the Board, President and CEO. The company grew from 3 people at startup to employing over 750 people with operations conducted throughout the U.S., Canada, South America and Yemen. The company was acquired by Occidental Petroleum on January 30, 2006
Mr. Stephenson has been active in many community affairs including serving on the boards of the Salvation Army, Indian Nations Council of the Boy Scouts and Philbrook Art Museum. He served as the capital campaign chairman for construction of the new headquarters building the Indian Nations Council and most recently has served as President of the Council. Through the family foundation and his company, he has contributed to many of the charitable organizations operating in the community. He was inducted into the Tulsa Hall of Fame in 2000 and received the Tulsa Humanitarian Award in 2002. In November 2008 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Associates, Board of Visitors for the College of Engineering, Board of Visitors for the College of Earth and Energy and a founder of the Sarkeys Engineering Center at the University of Oklahoma. He and Peggy have provided funds for scholarships, a chair in Petroleum Engineering and the Stephenson Research and Technology Center and Life Science Research Center. In 1996 he was inducted into the Distinguished Graduate Society of the College of Engineering and in 2003 received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of Oklahoma. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the University of Tulsa and in 2006 was inducted in the College of Business Administration Hall of Fame.
